Kelly A. Bownes is the President, CEO, and founder of MedPlan Recruiting, Inc. Kelly received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama and an Master's degree in Gerontology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Kelly was awarded the University of Alabama Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2012 by the Culverhouse School of Business at the University of Alabama

She received an appointment from Lieutenant Governor Jim Folsom to the Women's Health Steering Committee, Office of Women's Health for the State of Alabama, in 2007 and was reappointed in 2009. As a testament to her success in the Birmingham business community, Kelly received the Birmingham Business Journal's 2007 Rising Star Award at the Best in Business Awards that were selected by the UAB Graduate School of Business faculty. In addition, she was selected as one of the Birmingham Business Journal's Top Ten Business Women in 2008 and one of the top 100 of Who's Who in healthcare in Birmingham. Kelly was also a finalist for the Birmingham Business Journal’s Heroes in Healthcare for Outreach for her work in recruiting physicians for underserved areas and the Black Belt.

In her free time, Kelly has founded a regional competitive women's cycling team that is affiliated with TriStar Cycling—a 501-C3 organization that encourages youth to enjoy and participate in the sport of cycling. For three consecutive years, she was ranked on a national basis in the top three in her age group for USA Triathlon. She was also the Alabama State Triathlon champion in 2006 and the State of Alabama Cyclocross Champion.
